I have finally decided to bite the bullet and go Linux instead of NT. Red Hat and Mandrake seem to be the top suppliers and, from what I have heard, the install isn't that bad. However, as a prelim, I did download StarOffice 5.1 from Sun and have run it under NT and 95. It has all the functionality of Microsoft Office and will save files in Word and Excel format. Therefore, for me, the compatibility is there. I'm glad to see that Shredder is running under wine as I have Shredder 3 and Fritz so at least I will have some chess software running on Linux.
