MSVC 6.0 is not that good.

1. it produces incorrect code when optimizing for speed (you need Service Pack
3)
2. Tiger compiled with MSVC6 is only 4% faster than Tiger compiled by Gnu C
Compiler v2.7.x.x (DJGPP)

This is for DOS/Windows, I don't know about Linux.
