Why don't you install an extra fan or a heatsink? Most motherboards have ready connections on them. Or open the body and put an ordinary fan in the room pointed at your pc. But as long as you're not overclocking or so you could leave it behind forever. The only reason to shut down the monitor should be energy conservation. Jeroen ;-}
