Hi all, you all probably remember the (often heated) discussions about CSTal 2.50 and its participation in tournaments on SCCS and elsewhere. Chris' and Thorsten's claims that 2.50 was broken and thus way below the "real" CSTal strength were probably not taken seriously enough by me. I have now played a significant amount of games with CSTal 2.03 (with and without Thorsten's new style), and while I can't comment on whether its strength is at par with the very best, I can definitely state it plays _much_ better chess than 2.50. I'm not too proud to admit that I have made a mistake by not investigating this issue earlier during the Shep Championship 1999 (where 2.50 came 11th/12), and my apologies go especially to Chris who will hopefully continue working on CSTal III. --- Shep
