Yeah, and the same policy is in force regarding you, I would hope.

Moderators are given quite a bit of freedom to decide how to try to guide the
atmosphere of this place, and I think that the people who have been willing to
do the job have expressed a wide range of attitudes. There was also some range
of opinion amongst the original founders. None of this was ever worked out and
is still a source of trouble. I am hoping that over time, we will develop a
culture here that will provide "correct" solutions for common problems, but we
don't have them all yet.

Here is an example. You were the subject of the very *first* moderation
complaint in CCC history. One of the founders asked about a DB vs Kasparov
game, and made a self-deprecating comment about himself regarding his failure to
go find the game himself. You responded in agreement with the self-deprecating
comment, and went on to either provide the game or a link or additional
comments, I can't remember exactly what, and this founder complained to the rest
of us about your post. We decided to do nothing.

This is a big issue. Not all of us are happy with each other all the time, and
not every post expresses joy and satisfaction with what others are doing or
saying. Sometimes people make light nasty remarks and then go on to say
something else of substance. The question is what to do about this.

Personally, I prefer that a little latitude be given, while asking that people
refrain from doing that kind of thing. I am mushy on the issue, I'm still
trying to develop a policy that makes sense, given the people involved. Sorry
if that isn't clear and consistent enough, but it's the best I have come up
with.

Bob is clearly upset with you. The reverse also seems to be true. It seems to
be a complex situation that I hope you guys can resolve yourselves.

Please don't think I agree with everything that Bob says. I do not. Nor do I
encourage his rhetorical technique.
