To one extend or another the communication would be good for not only the programmer's products, but the customer using the programs, even if no trade secrets WERE given away. I don't think I would find having to speak the English language could be considered a barrier in the vast majority of cases, because I notice that most Chess programmers seem to be from Europe and a very large amount of them do speak English to some extent even if as a second language.
