Although I have skipped this CM7000 upgrade, the mismatch in the behavior suggests that the "focus window" was different in the two situations, i.e. the last window he clicked mouse in was some other window than where you clicked last (before pressing the arrow keys). Since the keyboard messages are always sent (by Windows system) to the current "focus window," the arrow keys may not be recognized the same way in different windows.
