I want to introduce this post by saying that I have never seen CCC working as smoothly as now. So it is not that I am trying to be bitchy with the moderators if I point out a few things. I agree with Ed. There are double standards in CCC since day one, and also now. An example: At the same time that some very nasty things were being said in the ICC discussion between Amir and Bob, without moderation taking action, Jeff Anderson found a more innocent, in my opinion, post of his answered with the "Moderation: troll" title. A few days before, a couple of insulting posts were not moderated either: see posts 74673 and 74676. In one week, possible attacks to Bob have been moderated. Attacks to others or from Bob have been not. This inconsistencies have happened also before, and not necessarily regarding Bob. Days ago I asked about this "special policy" mentioned by Bruce concerning moderating Bob and Amir, and questioned the double standards that this means. I got three different and contradictory answers from the three moderators. See posts 75446, 75452 and 75506. Bruce's answer (75446) talks about being strict or tolerant, when the question is to be equally strict or permissive with everyone in CCC. Dann's (75452) "we like some people more than others. It's just human nature. Some people are almost heros to me here. Will they get away with more? I would like to think that I can be perfectly fair, but in truth that is doubtful", is in contradiction with Karinsdad's (75506) "There is no double standards", as this is also in contradiction with the "special policy" mentioned before. This at times erratic moderating policy has left some corpses in the closet. As we all know, some people left CCC because of this, and a few of them so badly hurt that they quit computer chess for good. Quick clarification: this has not happened because of the present moderators, but well before. Second clarification: as a founder of CCC and as a moderator in the first troika, I am to be blamed as much as anyone. As Dann's says, it is very, very difficult to be impartial, and I remember this well from my moderator times. Only that difficult as it is, I find it of key importance that all CCC members are treated equal, regardless of their contributions, perceived status or friendship. No "special policies", but a shared double standard criteria instead. There should be no first class and second class citizens in here. Back to the beginning: not all have been treated equal. It is also true that CCC is working better now than ever before. I hope that in the future it will be an even better and a more fair place. Enrique
