Go up one level in this thread
A number of respected and talented chess programmers have taken a few barbs at each other recently. I don't think it will serve much value to try and prove who is right and who is wrong. In my opinion all are right and all are wrong. Everyone has different opinions about the best way to do things and what makes a program valuable and interesting. Why don't we all just admit that all the programs are valuable and all are interesting in their own right. The contributions of the authors differ in scope and direction. This does not negate the value of those things which contribute in a different area. Each and every involved party has taken some kind of poke at the opposition. We have received a large number of complaints from both participants in the threads and even more so from "bystanders." Unhappiness has been expressed because we did not delete posts. I suspect an even bigger outcry would arise if we did. From my judgement, there is no singular post that clearly violates the CCC charter. Sure, there *are* little jabs here and there. But it is hard to say how to take them and even perhaps they are somewhat tongue-in-cheek. I think it would be nice (if the discussion is not closed) to take it to private email. At least for those portions that are not about computer chess and for those that are but may be considered defamatory.
