That's not true for my experience, but I only uses Crafty, Rebel, and Hiarcs since most other tools are incapable of producing valid EPD output. I would like to see an entire EPD suite where crafty takes 2-4 times as long to find the correct answers. I simply don't believe that will happen. I have found that the latest versions of crafty are about the same as Rebel and Hiarcs for problem solving (perhaps a bit behind in midgame but not significant, and with full complement of tablebase files, a real dynamo in the endgame.) For the record, C.A.P. uses Crafty (many versions), Rebel (many versions) and Hiarcs (many versions) for all processing. There are some other Mac programs that could be used, but this far, I have been too lazy to write results parsers. Most commercial programs do not output analyzed EPD records. The most complete, most correct, and most compliant EPD output comes from Crafty. No surprise, the EPD engine for crafty was written by Steven J. Edwards himself.
