This is not bad. This is similar to what the old Netscape 1.1 newsreader used to do (not sure about the quotes). The simplest for me would be to match one or more word characters followed by :// followed by one or more non-whitespace characters and surround that with a <a></a> tags linking it to itself. I would do it as an 8x8 table made from up to 28 different .gif files (light empty square, dark empty square, white Rook on light square, white Rook on dark square, etc.), or I could use background colors for the squares and use 12 pieces .gifs with transparent backgrounds. I could see the script grabbing any FEN string which is on a line by itself and placing the diagram just below it. It would be very helpful if CCC members let me know how they would like this to work.
