That works great. Do we type in the links in the standard html format? Any special restriction with the parser? Let me try this: <A HREF="../index.html">Computer-Chess Club Message Board</A> or this: (http://www.icdchess.com/ccc) ( http://www.icdchess.com/ccc ) or this: mailto:rtomic@omegapoint.com > I would do it as an 8x8 table made from up to 28 different .gif files (light > empty square, dark empty square, white Rook on light square, white Rook > on dark square, etc.), or I could use background colors for the > squares and use 12 pieces .gifs with transparent backgrounds. > I could see the script grabbing any FEN string which is on a line by > itself and placing the diagram just below it. It would be very helpful > if CCC members let me know how they would like this to work. Probably better not to rely on the background color since users can override that in their browser (as I always do) and make everything invisible. Dark and light empty squares plus 24 pieces (doubled for the two square backgrounds), for total of 26 gif files would work fine. When posting replies it probably doesn't need picture in the quoted format, i.e. that could be removed when stuffing the editor window. Also some override convention would be good to have, maybe if FEN starts on the 1st column or up to some column (say 4-th) then it displays, otherwise it is left alone. Or perhaps some override character (like quoting symbol on the 1st column) as prefix to be left as is. Then you need help link for the syntax of the new features.
