To create this send a Rebel.exe shortcut to your desktop and right click on it. Then go to ..Properties, Program, Advanced, and Specify a new MS-DOS configuration. Note: paths for mouse and for Windows directory will vary for each user, so make applicable changes. Dos pif file for machines with 64 MB ram that normally cannot run Rebel with himem.sys loaded. Note the parameter for himem.sys. This corrected the crashing for me. Can now load Smartdrv and get more efficient hard disk management. However you must now use the W7 parameter allowing a maximum of 40 MB ram for hash. I use C:\CENTURY\REBEL.EXE S V W7 in the command line for this pif file. Then when Rebel starts I go into options and make sure the hash is set to 40. 60 MB does not work booting this way on my machine (AMD K6-233, 64MB ram, Win98) Config.sys for MS-DOS mode DOS=HIGH,UMB,NOAUTO Device=C:\Win98\Himem.Sys /int15=63488 Device=C:\Win98\emm386.exe noems files=60 fcbs=4 Lastdrive=c Autoexec.bat for MS-DOS mode SET winbootdir=C:\WIN98 SET TMP=C:\WIN98\TEMP SET TEMP=C:\WIN98\TEMP SET PROMPT=$p$g SET PATH=C:\WIN98;C:\WIN98\COMMAND;c:\mouse loadhigh C:\win98\smartdrv.exe 1024 c+ /u loadhigh c:\mouse\mouse I just finished up testing about 30 positions this way vs the F8 boot up method (ie: allowing 60 MB hash but no himem.sys or smartdrv loaded thus the noisier hard disk stuff) and found no difference in solution times. Actually only one position was found faster using 40MB but this I think was due to the way the movelist is generated. Maybe the above method can be further refined.
