The resulting KRPP vs KR ending is not 'lost' because it isn't in the 5 piece
tablebases. If the king captures on f4 the ending is obviously lost. I think
this is what happened, although I have not checked as I don't have the 5 man
tablebases on my machine at home.

Nimzo didn't use tablebases, so I suppose it would have been better just to eat
the pawn and hope Nimzo goofed up the resulting KRPKR ending.
