If I was going to play Rebel Century against Hiarcs 732, I'd set Rebel's
"Knowledge" to 500 (highest, slowest), and watch them both play at around
20k-50k nps.
(I wrote that sentence last & then cut/paste it to the top)

I play 100% Human vs Computer. Usually unofficial about 10min/game (humans
allowed to take back). Occassionally, been doing this since I was six years
old, Human book moves are manually enterred, computer gets about 30mins to
12hours per move (human gets many many takebacks) game goes back and foreward
(literally) for days/weeks until human eventually wins, or until game regresses
to opening line which is thrown out.

Between ages, dunno, damn dope's ruined my short AND long term memory, say 11
and 15, I played against Fidelity, Sargon, Scyces (Sp?), Novag, ....I played
only white Bird's (1.f4) & black Dutch's (1.d4 f4), and wrote a thesis which
proved to the ability of these .2 to 5 mhz dinosours analysis ability, that
those openings are really f#$%ed. (then I discovered rooting & got a life)

Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is that MY judgement of computer strength is
based only on ME (probably 1800-1900 Aussie, thats 2100-2300 ELO :} & 2500-2600
USA :}) playing these machines.

And what I set out to say was "Hiarcs is really good eh!"
I hated the GUI on Hiarcs 6 (my first Hiarcs) but was overwhelmed by my
inability to beat the bugger at blitz & friendly games.

Rebel 8 9 & 10 seem to beat me more technically (consistantly grinding me away
during the game) while Hiarcs (now 732) beats me with unforseen imagination,
(shit looking moves that kick me in the guts & send me clicking angrily on the
take-backer).

I'm a little glad Rebel isn't in the SSDF at the moment, as it lets me barrack
openly for Hiarcs to top the ratings.

I used to be a big Lang fan & wish for him to bring out a NEW Genius. I don't
favour Fritz as it seems to win by sheer looking (slightly blindly) at lotsa
positions (like CM6k). MChess tried & tried & nearly did. I hate Chessmaster
on principal but don't know what the principal is (I also hated Alan Moffat,
mazdas, & hate Manly Warringa & of course Brisbane - you know what I mean
Micheal - there're still good but I hate them). I think of Nimzo & Junior as
the smartarse new kids, and have a very interested eye on the new kid Tiger
(Therone, not Woods) who's threatening to race to the top (will he get there &
then be "Langed" because he can't improve his unique specialities that got him
there).

Until last month I rated Hiarcs732 as the "smartest" player around, & if deep
blue was challenging a PC I'd use Hiarcs ( & expect that Fritz & chessmaster to
do worst of the top lot against Blue).

Now I wonder if Rebel (knowledge=500) is as smart as Hiarcs.
Shep?????
Test Suites?????

times up again, gotta go see Bella's new posts

See you guys
Tina
