I think that a strong human would be best. I have a friend who has improved
tremendously since he started taking lesson from an IM a couple months ago.
The IM only charges him $25/hr, so the price is reasonable.
However, since I don't have the time to schedule a lesson during the
week, or the inclination to drive to a lesson even if I had the time,
I like Chess Mentor (CM). Why? Because it drills me over and over in
positions that I should know and I can use it any time I have a few
spare minutes during the day. I also like CT-Art 3.0
for tactical training. It should be noted that I have always liked
solving tactical puzzles from books and magazines, and I think that's
a big part of the reason I like these programs so much.
