DIEP is always there on ICC under the accounts: Moron (dual 550 celeron), Secret (dual 550 celeron linux and !computer book), Judgeturpin (PII266 However for a tournament i need to know when we play as i need to select a special tournament book for DIEP. I don't intend to get killed by the Kure/Noomen lines like in DCCC because i use automatic generated books for the vaste majority of games at icc, which work great against humans and most programs but suck bigtime against the handmade Kure/Noomen book. So best is probably to make appointments. >Nothing to gain, perhaps? Maybe the ICC would sweeten the pot with a small >prize fund? ICC is very interested in running this tournament, they never revealed that. >Would cheating be a concern? I pretty much trust all the programmers, but do >others feel differently? As long as there is nothing to win commercially (sales, prices) and impact of this tournament isn't too big, then i have no problems. However it must be said that some dudes on icc that play by hand, usual correspondence players, that play the opening themselves then let the rest play by the computer, are unbeatable. Game in 90 is a good idea of course. >I'm interested in hearing everyone's opinion. It's a shame that we have this >fantastic public arena for online chess that has never been used to stage a >formal computer chess event... Yes i'm also a bit surprised that so many buy fritz/chessmaster/rebel and many other programs, own it or do *something* with it, but 99.999% of all games the few ones that play it at the internet play 15 0. 90 0 or slower doesn't get played much there. If one plays 90 0 out there then it's only a single game and usual against a DIEP. Never big matches. Seemingly no one likes to play attended these levels... Setting up a 90 0 competition there would be great fun therefore. We must however take care that from every program only one person plays with it. From a program only the newest version should be allowed to join. Nicest is to play 2 games. one with white and one with black. I see no reason why everything a game should be played at a certain time. We have participants out of: - USA - Europe - New Zealand Etcetera. When it's 4 PM my time (CET), which is an excellent time for me to start a game, and in the morning in USA, then it's 2 AM for Peter McKenzie. However more to the west of the USA it's only 7 AM, which is a bit early. Hard to appoint that everyone should start at 4 PM CET. It's better to ask to play a game within a few days, then both programmers contact each other. Note that for the ones that have not access to a quick machine, say a dual or a fast K7, that there are solutions possible. There are a lot of enthusiastic computerfans on ICC with hardware a lot faster than we see at world championships. Just email your program to one of those volunteers you like and he'll play in your name. Long discussions about hardware we should not get here, everyone can join on *very* fast hardware, way faster than gets provided at WMCCCs, so the outsearching issue (for example DIEP at a k6-300 getting just 6 ply which misses too many tactics) is not valid. I see not a single reason for an 'equal' hardware contest here. I would prefer playing a program joining that gets a billion nodes a second yet doesn't know much about pawnstructures... I would love to see entries of supercomputers. As getting systemtime on super computers is very hard, we SHOULD allow participants with them to set a time at which gets played. Entries of supercomputer programs would make this competition very interesting, as the other participants: rebel, tiger, ferret, crafty, nimzo, lambchop, shredder and fritz we already see regurarly at icc.
