Subject: beginners question...

Hello

I always hear, that a rook should attack a passed pawn from behind and also
defend a passed pawn from behind.

Question:
white pawn at C4.
where on this line should the white or black rook be placed (C1 or C8)

I need a general rule. It is clear, that sometimes......

Thanks and excuse the stupid question. But I want to clarify it "forever"
