I think this is a fine idea whose time has come. I'd certainly like to participate with my program (LambChop). For a really good tournament, it is important that ICC get behind it. From our discussions with Zek on ICC today, this sounds like it might happen. I'd recommend having a small increment in the time control. A reasonable increment will prevent time forfeits by manual operators in really long games. We don't want to make the increment too big though, as this will make the maximum game duration too unpredictable. Something like 60 min for the game, plus 10sec inc per move seems reasonable. If its organised well, we'll see a good number of entries: probably 20-30. I'd like to see 8 rounds at the very least, preferably 1 or 2 more. This would probably mean running the tournament over 2 consecutive weekends (like Dutch CC). For this tournament, unrestricted hardware is the only real option I think. Too hard to police anything else! I think that only programs entered by their author should be allowed - just like the ICCA events. I personally don't mind if the author doesn't operate the program. cheers, Peter
