I think that even the commercial guys do not earn much money from chess programs and they could earn more money if they did other things in the same time. 3)programmers who do not earn money may keep their program secret because they hope to earn money in the future. It is not so easy to earn money from good chess program. If you want to earn money it is not enough to have good program. You have to care that your program work not only on your hardware and you have to care also for other things.
