I can't take full credit for this idea. There was a similar discussion several
months ago, only the plan was to run some small, informal tournaments on ICC.
We were talking about faster time controls, I think - something like G/15. The
people involved included myself, Dann Corbit, James Swafford, and a couple of
other guys I can't remember. The idea was that a small round-robin tournament
could be finished in a night.

I still like that idea, but apparently there wasn't much interest. There's
already so much comp vs. comp blitz on ICC that it probably didn't seem like
much of a change.

But G/60 or G/90 is significantly different, and the presence of programs like
Ferret, Crafty, Rebel, Nimzo, Zarkov is sure to spark greater interest.

When I posted the idea yesterday, I really didn't expect much reponse. I
figured a few of the amateur programmers would be interested, and I had my
fingers crossed that you and Bob might play.

Frankly, I'd be happier if somebody else organized this event. I've never
attended a computer tournament, and so I'm not qualified to be the "benevolent
dictator". :-)

At a minimum, I will keep working to gather input and try to define a reasonable
structure for the event.
