You are very likely missing 1 or both opening books because Crafty should not be thinking so fast, it should be going through book moves. To be quite honest, I don't actually know if you can really play a Chess engine against itself (I've never tried to) if that's what you're doing, but I think that your problem is that you don't have the books. Make sure you get ahold of the faq,txt, and crafty.doc files because they have important info. Also see Frank's Winboard site and get a download of his file config.zip from his download page because that has good examples for setting up Winboard & the files related to various engines. http://www.ginko.de/user/volker.pittlik/schach/winboard.htm Pete
