That's not quite true. The AltiVec unit os not a floating point unit, but a
vector unit. Vectors are arrays of data, that the vector unit can handle
parallel. I'm not yet shure how to program for Altivec (i don't have a G4), but
since chess programs make heavy use of arrays this could be a big advantage for
chess applications if compiled for AltiVec.
