I have read that before, Ratko, but there is one flaw in that reasoning: motorboats are not competing with humans in (indoor) swimming, nor are cars competing with them in the 100 meters on the olypics. That would be a spectacle.... It's typical for chess computers that their primary mission *is* to compete with humans. So in that case most programs at this point don't stimulate people to START playing chess, but no matter their strength, they're a fine tool for the chess addict (Not only Larry T. :)) Maybe there should be more (number of) flexible chess programs that can tutor people - best with the help of other real people - and challenge them in a nice and exciting way. And please in other languages than just English, because your average (foreign) little nephew doesn't speak English well enough. It would be a nice one for the programmers here to develop such a playing and tutoring program - standard, with an intuitif interface, so you don't have to translate much, and team up with a chess teacher. I know the GUI is a hard part. The second part of your post is absolutely true. Computer Chess does already have its own firm spine. Jeroen ;-}
