Greetings!
I would like to see someone write a second version of GNUCHESS.EXE,
capable of handling different initial setups using several Fairy Chess
pieces. Call this program "GNUFAIRY.EXE" - note that it can also be
used by players who like the standard pieces, but with "random setups".
The Chancellor (moves like a Rook or a Knight) is a very popular piece
these days, and probably could be given the same positional bonus table
as the Queen. I would prefer, however, to change the four central square
values from "6" to "5", giving the table below. The entries in this table
are exactly half of those I once proposed for GNUCHESS 4.00, as I see
GNUCHESS 5.00 now uses smaller numbers.
static const short ChanceSq[64] =
{
0, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 1, 0,
1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1,
2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 4, 3, 2,
3, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 4, 3,
3, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 4, 3,
2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 4, 3, 2,
1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1,
0, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 1, 0
};
The latest version of my chess variant, with Queens and Chancellors
on the standard 8x8 board, can be found at:
