Being a strong chess player is not needed to write a good chess program. I even
think it's a handicap, but I realize this is a controversial issue.

Writting a chess program enhance you positional chess skills. That's what
happened to me. Unfortunately my general level is still very poor, because I do
too much tactical mistakes.
