Well I have had chessmaster 7000 since it came out.
Before that I had chessmaster 5000, forgoing the 5500 and 6000 upgrades.
What I like about it:
1. The rooms format is very nice...game room, class room, etc.
2. The bathroom tile (off color white) looks nice.
3. For a 1500 player , the tutorials are excellent. I have learned
very much listening to Josh Waitzkin describing his games. I also
have learned a bit from the Pandolfini lectures.
4. I download the games I play from fics, analyze them with chess mentor
and see my missed moves, etc.
5. I have a database of my games played on fics, icc. I am not quite so
sure on how to use this to improve my play, but still, it is a record
of all my games.... surely I can use this as a learning tool.
6. The new database has 500,000 games and is much better than my old CM5000.
I have had no problems on my system like some others have had.
The only thing I don't like is that when I want chess advise, it doesnt do
a running "history" of the eval like it does when I set up a position and
set up infinite time eval.
Complaints I have heard.
1. No engine upgrade from CM6000. Well CM6000 was NO. 2 on the SSDF list
and to improve the engine at that level is not so straightforward.
2. Bugs, crashes, corrupting other drivers... I have had no such problems.
3. Geared to kids. How so? A new kids room, but even there I enjoyed the
Waitzkin games when he was learning at my level (1500).
For $20.00 upgrade from CM5000, this was a great deal. I really have
IM, GM type advise on how to improve my game.
