I already read some stuff on the newsgroups (I don't garantee anything), that Fritz6 is weaker at blitz time controls, and perhaps has a slower node count. Naturally, this leads to speculation that their has been some significant adittion of so called chess knoweledge into the program, which is expected to do better at the slower time control(s). Also ChessBase Magazine #72 appears to imply that Fritz6 was used in the Seimans Giants tournament, which Fritz won ahead of Leko, Topalov, Polgar & others at a fearly quick pace (but not speed chess). Oh well, who the hell knows. All I know is that Fritz (& every other top program), has beaten me like a chicken for the last 6 years. But then I never play anything but 5 minute chess with them:) More important to me is the feature set of the programs, and how they are offered price-wise & upgrade wise. For that, I put the following programs as most worthwhile, * Fritz5.32/Hiarcs7.32, Junior5.32, [Fritz6] * Rebel Century, [Rebel Tiger] * Millaneum Chess Genius [MCS 6.5, and other engines coming out - not as competive, price wise in my opinion, but an awsome package overall] What do they have in common? (among other stuff), Many good analysis features; database cababilities, with large game database(s) included; Very comprehensive opening books; Handicap & Coaching features; Auto-game annotation features; Interoperability with other products offered by the same companies; Good technical support from the distributing companies. Next up? - I guess that will be Internet connectivity and publishing on the Internet from the program. (This is already being offered by (the coming), Fritz6 & Rebel Tiger I think). Larry T.
