  I think the Author of Deep Blue is barely 1400, so I don't think it really
makes a difference. I would guess on the average most programmers are below
1700.  Many make the assumption that because a programmer writes a strong
program then he somehow knows alot about chess.  This is ofcourse untrue, what
he knows about chess programming. Another programmer in this thread made a very
interesting point, that the thinking involved in playing high level chess, has
nothing to do with programming a computer to play good chess.
