November 22, 1999 Dear Computer Chess Enthusiasts: My husband is a chess lover who appreciates the challenge and complexity of a good game of chess. In fact, he is a mathematician and professional software programmer, and for the last couple of years has been working on a new chess software package in his spare time. The chess engine utilizes case analysis theory from the field of artificial intelligence instead of using the standard “brute force” approach to position selection and analysis. We also have several feature ideas that diverge from the currently offered products, so we are conducting a study to determine the types of features that current computer chess users are interested in seeing in a new product. If you would like a ground-floor opportunity to be heard and help design the next best-selling chess software, then go to http://jaws.greatwhite.com/~survey. We would like to know what features and functionality you think are most important. The survey is straightforward, and will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. We want to assure you that your participation in this survey is voluntary and completely anonymous. When you complete and email this survey to us, we will not receive any indication or record of your return email address. We hold your right to privacy and confidentiality in high regard. We guarantee that any information collected in this survey will not be released to any third parties, and that you will not be contacted by any salesperson because of your participation. Any voluntary information you provide for receiving future updates from us regarding the status of new computer chess software will not be released to third parties. Additionally, we will not use this information to sell you other products. Please take a few moments of your time and complete our on-line survey at http://jaws.greatwhite.com/~survey. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. With thanks and warmest regards, Beth Mott-Stenerson Marketing Researcher
