It is clear to many players that when your pieces are passive and
you cannot castle 2 pawns advantage is not important.
I believe that it is also clear to some programs like Chess system tal
I do not have chess system tal but I read that it often has big positional
scores.

It is clear to many players(even with no correspondence rating) that if the
score is positive and going down you should suspect that something is wrong with
the evaluation.
I am very surprised to read that it was not clear to 2400 rating player.

They did not give around 2.5 pawns for your opponent.
I checked the position with Fritz5 for a short time and it gave a positive score
for your opponent but not more than 1 pawn.

I do not have Fritz532 but I do not think that the scores are clearly different

I gave Junior5.9 to look at this position and it see negative score for white
with Bxe7 after less than 40 minutes on slow p200MMX
Junior5.9 found 18.b4 after less than an hour(evaluation +0.02 for white)
I believe that it can find also that 18.b4 is losing if I give it more time.

You are right Junior5.9 expects 18...fxe4 after 18.Bxe7
