Unless the operating systems offers parallel processing support for multiple
processors, I don't see any difference between Linux and Windows 9x. However, I
know that NT supports multiple processors up to 4 processors, and Unix also
offers such a feature. I am not familiar with Linux, so I cannot comment. Also
the chess programs must also support parallel processing. Crafty is one of the
freeware engines, with Deep Junior aka Junior 6, it remains to be seen if Junior
6 will indeed support multi-processor, and Fritz Frankfurt or Quest.
