Arasan 5.3 is available from http://www.best.com/~jdart/arasan.htm.
Relative to version 5.2, this version has the following changes.
1. The size of a hash table entry has been reduced (again), allowing
more hash table entries in the same amount of memory.
2. The two king safety routines have been consolidated.
Opening center files or moving wing pawns before the king is
castled is given a greater penalty (5.2 underestimated the
danger from this).
3. A special eval fix was put in to detect a common Bxh7 sac in
the Winawer French.
4. Arasan now has 3 search regions: a regular alpha-beta search,
an intermediate region with somewhat different extensions and
razoring, and a quiescence search with only captures, no checks.
5. The scoring code for a piece in a "hole" (safe spot unattackable
by enemy pawns) was broken - this is fixed now. A fix was also
made to weak pawn scoring.
6. A permanent hash table a.k.a. position learning is implemented.
7. The GUI will now use more memory for the hash table, by default.
8. The time management code has been simplified a bit.
