Well in two years from now there will be only one version of Windows in the
market. No more windows 9X and NT. All the different Windows OS will be brought
up together as one OS, starting with Windows 2000. There will be one more
release of Windows 9x, aka Windows Millenium, that will be the last Windows 9x.
Microsoft wants to merge the two different Windows as one. As for chess
software, there will always be software for the home PC, therefore, Windows will
continue to flourish. Don't worry, be happy ! :)
