I have had no problems running Crafty 17.2 via ChessBase/Fritz (apart from not
as yet being able to supress certain log files). It is installed "manually" like
other winboard engines to be run under ChessBase/Fritz. If you're not sure how
to do this, download gnuchess from the ChessBase site and see how they do it.
Remember that to run Crafty under Windows you want the "wcrafty*.exe" file.

By the way, the latest ChessBase iteration of Crafty I have is 16.6 (I can't
remember where I got it from), which on my setup slightly outperforms the
winboard iteration of 17.2.
