Achieving an occasional draw against the commercial progams is trivial, even
for rather weak players. If the program leaves its opening library in a
position it considers slightly inferior, it will happily accept a repetition
of moves.

Winning is of course more difficult, but even this will surely happen
occasionally for average players. Most programs still have serious holes
in their king safety evaluations, and can be beaten by long-term sacrifices
to blow open the king's position. Slow kingside attacks in closed positions
also work if you are lucky. It is much more difficult than a few years ago,
but far from impossible. I am a very weak player myself (I had a Norwegian
ELO of about 1900 some time around 1991 or 92, now I haven't played tournament
chess for many years and is certainly even worse). My results against the
top programs are terrible (I would guess I score somewhere between 5 and 10 %),
but I don't _always_ lose. If I played slow games, my score would probably
be better.

By the way, I have no need for a bridge in Brooklyn. Thanks for the offer,
anyway! :-)
