I changed the BAD_TRADE code in Crafty a bit, so that a piece for two pawns isn't bad if it opens a file in front of the king, and as long as the attacking side has a Queen. If it opens a file, but there's no Queen, it still gets a negative score, but not as big as normal. It seems to work pretty well on these positions - My modified Crafty 17.2 solved all but a few of them (PII-300, didn't let it search very long). I think this one may be dubious, but it's hard to tell. There are many possible lines, some of which are only very deeply seen to be winning for white. >r1b2rk1/1p3pp1/p5Pp/2bpPp1Q/3N4/1Pq1B1R1/2P4P/3R2K1 w - - bm Bxh6; id "ECM.796"; The line 1. Bxh6 fxg6 2. Rxc3 Bxd4+ 3. Rxd4 gxh5 is interesting. Can white do something better? How will white win after this?
