These positions from the recent games posted by Enrique are about sacrificing pieces for pawns. In line with recent threads here about sacs that either fail or succeed, see what you make of these. Black played Ng5 and lost. The connected passed pawns on the Queenside for compensation were not enough this time, but given a similar position the sac may well have been justified. 2r2rk1/1b3ppp/pq1b1n2/1pnPp3/1P2P3/2N2N2/3B1PPP/RB1QR1K1 b - b3 id "RTiger PII-300/64MB - Shredder 4 PIII-500"; am f6g4; Black played a5 but here looks like a good time to play g5. Black might squirm out of the checks and remain a piece up for two pawns. r3r1k1/p4bp1/1ppq3p/3nRQ2/3P1p1B/5N2/PP3PPP/4R1K1 b - - id "Shredder 4 PIII-500 - RTiger PII-300/64MB"; bm g7g5; Black avoided g5 here also and I agree with that choice. r5k1/2r2bp1/1ppq3p/p2nN3/3PRp1B/7Q/PP3PPP/4R1K1 b - - id "Shredder 4 PIII-500 - RTiger PII-300/64MB"; am g7g5; Black plays g5 here and the game quickly ends in White's favour. r1r3k1/5bp1/1ppq3p/p2n4/3PRp1B/5N1Q/PP3PPP/4R1K1 b - - id "Shredder 4 PIII-500 - RTiger PII-300/64MB"; am g7g5;
