What field, exactly?

Yes.

If this is the only thing they measure, they are not doing a good job.

True, but it should be fairly stable. I.e., it shouldn't change very much, and
certainly not very suddenly.

No. IQ is a measure of intelligence, not knowledge. Intelligence includes
problem-solving, pattern recognition, association, application, synthesis,
evaluation, creativity, etc. Of course some knowledge is involved in
conventional IQ testing by default. It is impossible to test someone without
relying on some use of knowledge. However, the knowledge has very little affect
on the outcome. Mental Age != Knowledge.

I suppose this could be true, but I'm not sure about it.

>I have not seen any valid IQ assessments (GRE, SAT, ...)

Agh! Neither the GRE or SAT measures anything close to IQ. Some parts of the
SAT could be extrapolated to do something like this (the analogy parts,
specifically), but the test itself is a pretty basic test of knowledge - "How
much have you learned?".

I agree. A person with 75 IQ simply isn't going to become GM strength (ignoring
the odd chess-playing savant, if there are any, who may be as good as anyone).

I hope in the 16 weeks you will cover that IQ != Knowledge != Mental Age. :/

P.S. Sorry if I sound too harsh in this message. It's not my intent to be so.
I just get bugged when I hear something like this, (Which is entirely too often,
mostly from people who have no idea what they're talking about.) especially from
one who should know the difference. :(
