The chess servers will absolutely open the eyes of the commercial programmers to a new and different set of problems than they see worrying about the SSDF results. I have GMs that _only_ want to draw vs crafty. And GM's are good enough that avoiding draws is both difficult _and_ dangerous. Some people have simply refused to play human opponents that can do this. I have been trying to 'solve' the problem... but against computers it is a double-edged sword, as I am often not nearly as fast as other programs as I do so much work in the evaluation now... And a slower program is pretty foolish-looking when it tries to keep the position open against a faster/deeper searcher. :) I probably should turn this stuff off against computers, which is an idea worth looking into...
