we've seen only short matches against computers.
my guess is that a GM playing against a computer program a 40-game match (kind
of like the SSDF does it), may not do so well at first.  But once the GM learns
how the computer plays (very much the way he learns how other GMs play), I think
he'll have better results.  Would the GM win the 40-game match?  My guess is
that yes, the GM would win.

How would Kasparov do against a Deeper Blue-type opponent in a 24-game match
(similar to world championship matches)?  Hard to say, but I'd bet on Kasparov
to win the match.  Although he lost the 6-game match, I think he would be able
to learn how the computer plays and he'd adjust accordingly.
But like I've said before, these "dream" matches would cost a lot of money to
sponsor and they are not likely to happen soon.
