There are 2 variables to look at:
1. Time (That's why people get a "rating"; Rate means something divided by
time.)
If you give masters a long time (maybe weeks or months like corresponce
chess) on a certain position, they will search in their heads for more
positions. They can produce up to two or three positions per second.
2. Horizon effect (It will not go away until there's a final decision.)
I was about to say horizon effect will never go away, but that's not
altogether true.
