Welcome to the "club" of programmers.
By writting a program yourself, I'm sure you'll understand many things that
nobody can explain to you otherwise.
There is a world of difference between being outside of the engine (passionated
user) and inside it (programmer).
I don't mean a world is better than the other, but having insights of both
worlds will probably totally change your mind about computer chess. Better
understanding, and even your feelings will be changed.
Good luck, I hope you'll enjoy working actively on your program.
