But if you set up that position (with no game history)for Fritz it will solve the problem. Instantly. And if you play the game leading up to that position, it will solve the problem the first time it comes up. But Fritz and Nimzo and Hiarcs and probably some other programs will react differently when supplied with a move history that contains a missed mate when that same position comes up again. Even a program you have found to be great at solving mate problems may do the same. eric
