AMD K6-3 will be discontinued, replaced by K6-2+ (which will have less cache!). AMD K7 (Athlon) has many compatibility problems now, and stability is the main problem (perhaps you are a "general gamer" too, uh? - so you'll probably want to get your 3D graphics card running 100%, but... what so if it crashes your system _very _often? ). The K7M ASUS mainboard seems to be the best for K7, though. Maybe what only matters to you is CHESS, so... get a dual board! Cheap option: Abit BP6, dual celerons (same speed and specs!) and... Linux or WinNT/Win 2000 (oops... Win 2000 Server... some $$$ more...). My opinion is that K6-2 is already dead. If you want to be secure of what happens to your PC (and do not want to overclock), buy a good mainboard for a Pentium III. A. Ponti
