get an AMD k6/2 450 or 400. They are cheap, reliable, work well for chess (and a 30% speedup you get from faster much more expensive processors doesn't matter very much chess-wise) get 64MB Ram now (ram price going up and down lately), make sure you have a socket left on your mainboard to install another 64MB later. sd-ram! if you can, get a DFI-board, they have good custumer support, are reliable and _cheap_ get a big HD, manufactorer doesn't matter much. Pinoeer cd rom drivers are very reliable, don't buy a no-name cd rom. Its not worth the 10$ saving. Regards, Georg
