You both have good points. I think "creativity" is "to do something in different (and better) way than before." I personally value it higher creative that improvement happens in program itself than in hardware. (But why not in both!) I'd hope to see someday some major improvement in the way that a chess program works. Something which were like Quicksort compared with Insertion sort. Probably it's most unlikely that it happens, but that is what I would call "really creative". My own program is still so new that it needs a lot of improving that it could do even _something_ with old hardware. I'm slowly coming from "bogosort" to "insertion sort."
