Bobby Fischer's favorite size is/was reportedly 2 1/8" squares. I believe 2 1/4" is the usual standard/official size. That makes sense, because whatever it is, he would want something different (no offense to BF intended). I like 2" squares, or even 1 7/8" squares, personally. If you're seated while playing, my feeling is that 2 1/4" squares are too big for the best perspective. However I don't use 3D chessboards anymore. It's a 2D game, so a 2D board provides the best perspective, in my opinion. --JRM On December 14, 1999 at 22:57:48, Pete Galati wrote: >On December 14, 1999 at 21:58:46, D Ridge wrote: > >>This is a little off topic but... >> >>I'm interested in purchasing a high quality wood board and pieces. >> >>Wooden chess boards come in all sizes with the most popular individual square >>size ranging from 2 inches to 2 1/2 inches. >> >>I was wondering if someone can tell me if there is an official size for the >>individual board squares, chess piece height and chess piece base diameter as >>sanctioned by FIDE.
