Thanks very much for the info! I downloaded and installed the Fritz 6 Demo on a
Zip disk, and it appears to work OK insofar as I can tell. I don't know enough
German to do much, but I clicked a few buttons at random and figured out some
things. I could probably figure it all out if given some time. I like what I see
so far, and am probably more likely to buy it after seeing the demo. I had been
thinking about skipping Fritz 6 in favor of SSDF's new #1 Rebel-Tiger thingie,
so those two are clearly in direct competition right now. I also was able to
transfer the Fritz 6 Demo engine + F6.ini files (just correcting the path
therein) to my Hiarcs 7.32 installation, and it seems to work fine therein as
another engine. It will take more testing, but the F6 engine appears to run at
about 2/3rds the speed of the F5.32 engine as measured in kN/s, and produces
approximately the same analysis results, although that may not be the full
story. As for worrying about whether this is going to hurt ChessBase as
mentioned in some other threads, not a chance!!! Those guys ain't that dumb.
It's doing exactly what they wanted, generating positive interest and feedback.
Cheers!
