Making hasty generalizations, etc. Not all programs would capture the Rook. I've had time to try only Zarkov 4.30 (an awesome program, by the way) and it says, after only a couple of seconds, that 1.a5!! is the best move. I kept it on for several minutes and 1.a5 is still its PV. There must be some other programs that are just like Zarkov :)) The position that you picked out is the standard AI demonstration about AI stupidity (oxymoron, ain't it?), but it won't hold water for long.
